**NEW DELHI** – A coordinated bomb threat targeting over 40 Delhi schools on Sunday night turned out to be a hoax, Delhi Police announced Monday morning. The threat, delivered via email at 11:38 PM, claimed multiple small bombs had been planted in the schools and demanded a $30,000 ransom. The email contained graphic threats of injury and suffering.
Prominent schools like DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar were among those affected. The threats triggered immediate responses; students were dismissed, and police, including bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs, conducted thorough searches at affected schools. No explosives were found.
The Delhi Fire Department received calls starting at 6:15 AM. The police are actively investigating the email’s origin, tracing the IP address to identify and apprehend the sender. Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi reassured the public that investigations are underway and every effort is being made to ensure the safety and security of schools and children.
The incident has sparked strong reactions from Delhi’s political leadership. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with current Chief Minister Atishi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia, criticized the BJP-led central government for the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, citing a recent rise in violent crimes and bomb threats. They demanded answers from Home Minister Amit Shah.
This incident follows a similar hoax bomb threat against CRPF schools in October, occurring just a day after an explosion outside a CRPF school in Rohini. Both previous threats were also determined to be hoaxes. The police are investigating whether there is any connection between the current incident and the earlier threats.
