**SEOUL, South Korea (December 9, 2024)** – A fishing boat capsized off the southeastern coast of South Korea early Monday morning after colliding with a sand barge, resulting in seven fatalities and one missing person. The 29-ton vessel, carrying three South Koreans and five Indonesian nationals, collided with a much larger 456-ton barge near Gyeongju.
According to Pohang coast guard official Kim Eul-dong, a massive search and rescue operation is underway involving dozens of emergency workers, 15 coast guard vessels, and six helicopters. The missing person is an Indonesian national. No injuries were reported among the barge’s crew.
