**KOCHI, December 9, 2024** – The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has partnered with the Kerala government to enhance the state’s coastal infrastructure and marine development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between CMFRI and the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) to collaborate on various marine sector projects.
The partnership will leverage CMFRI’s expertise in the planning, design, and execution of projects such as marine hatcheries, aquariums, offshore structures, marine parks, sea cages, and artificial reefs. CMFRI Director Grinson George emphasized that this collaboration will ensure efficient resource utilization and project sustainability, contributing to the growth of Kerala’s fisheries sector.
The initiative aims to improve marine biodiversity conservation, protect marine habitats, and create sustainable income opportunities for coastal communities through improved aquaculture and marine projects. George highlighted the crucial role of CMFRI’s scientific knowledge in balancing development with the preservation of delicate marine ecosystems. The MoU was signed by CMFRI Director Grinson George and KSCADC Managing Director P. I. Sheik Pareeth.
