Mon Dec 09 12:49:59 UTC 2024: ## Sheffield Shield Teams Face Big Bash Break Showdown

**Sydney, NSW** – As the Sheffield Shield competition heads into a break before the Big Bash League, all six states are vying for a winning send-off. Several teams have undergone significant squad changes due to injuries, player unavailability, and call-ups to the Australian Test team.

**NSW Blues** will be without Sean Abbott (called up to the Test squad), Nic Maddinson (finger injury), and Adam Zampa (unavailable). Their replacements are Blake Nikitaras, Tanveer Sangha, and Lachlan Shaw. Zampa’s inclusion last week, ahead of Sangha, sparked debate among former players.

**Western Australia** welcomes back captain Sam Whiteman after recovering from a side strain, but will be missing Ashton Turner (also with a side injury) and Jhye Richardson (managed). Brody Couch and Hamish McKenzie return to the squad. Turner’s injury is a blow to the Perth Scorchers as well.

**Tasmania** loses in-form all-rounder Beau Webster to the Australian Test squad, with Lawrence Neil-Smith replacing him. Caleb Jewell also misses out.

**South Australia** sees the return of several players from injury including Jake Fraser-McGurk, Nathan McAndrew, and Jason Sangha. They also lost Brendan Doggett to the Test squad.

**Victoria**, the ladder leaders, will be without Matt Short and Peter Siddle, but welcomes back Mitch Perry and Cam McClure. Captain Will Sutherland remains injured.

**Queensland**, currently winless, is looking for their first victory of the season. They have included Gurinder Sandhu and Tom Straker, while Liam Guthrie is dropped. The Bulls will be hoping for strong performances from Matthew Renshaw and Jack Clayton to boost their struggling batting lineup. The team will be looking to put their One-Day Cup win behind them and secure a Sheffield Shield victory before the break.
