**MUMBAI, INDIA** – The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will have a new governor starting December 11th. Sanjay Malhotra, currently the Union Revenue Secretary, has been appointed to succeed Shaktikanta Das, whose three-year term concludes on December 10th. Malhotra will serve a three-year term as the 26th governor of the RBI.
Malhotra, a 1990 batch IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, brings extensive experience in various sectors. He previously served as Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power. He holds an engineering degree from IIT Kanpur and a postgraduate degree from Princeton University. His 30-year career spans power, finance, taxation, IT, and mining. His appointment follows an extension to Das’s term, which was initially set to expire in December 2021.
