Mon Dec 09 13:27:40 UTC 2024: ## Soros-Congress Links Fuel Heated Debate in Indian Parliament

**NEW DELHI** – Accusations of links between the Congress party and George Soros, a prominent philanthropist and financier, have ignited a firestorm in the Indian Parliament. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey alleged that Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and other Congress leaders have ties to Soros, whose Open Society Foundations are accused of plotting against India.

This led to uproar in both houses of Parliament on Monday, with the ruling NDA demanding a discussion on the alleged connections. The controversy has brought Soros, and his extensive influence, into the national spotlight.

According to Britannica, Soros, born in 1930 to a wealthy Jewish family in Budapest, Hungary, survived the Holocaust. He later studied at the London School of Economics, working as a railway porter and waiter to fund his education. After moving to London and then New York, he became a successful financier, managing a hedge fund and making a name for himself in global markets. He’s also been accused of manipulating currencies, notably the Thai baht in 1997, an allegation he denies.

Soros established the Open Society Foundations in 1984, donating billions of dollars to various humanitarian and democratic causes globally. The foundation’s activities span over 70 countries. He has also been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump.

The BJP’s accusations link Soros’s alleged anti-India activities with the Congress party, adding another layer of complexity to the already tense political climate. The nature and extent of any alleged connections remain to be seen, but the controversy is certain to dominate Indian political discourse in the coming days.
