Sun Dec 08 11:09:31 UTC 2024: ## South Korean Parliament Rejects Investigation into President Yoon’s Wife

**SEOUL, Dec 7 (UNI)** – The South Korean National Assembly today rejected a motion calling for a special investigation into First Lady Kim Keon-hee, falling short of the required votes. The 198 votes against the motion came just before a separate impeachment vote against President Yoon Suk-yeol, who faces accusations of attempting a violent seizure of power and exceeding his authority.

The rejected investigation focused on allegations surrounding luxury gifts received by Kim Keon-hee between June and September 2022. While the prosecution previously cleared Kim of bribery charges, finding the gifts to be personal gestures unrelated to her husband’s duties, the opposition Democratic Party continues to press for a special investigation, accusing the prosecution of bias. President Yoon has indicated he will veto any future attempt to pass the bill. The impeachment vote against the president, also unsuccessful, centered on allegations of unlawful martial law declaration.
