**JAIPUR, December 8, 2024** – The Rajasthan government is taking steps to improve electricity supply for farmers, particularly addressing the long-standing issue of nighttime irrigation. Farmers previously faced difficulties due to power supply being primarily available between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., forcing them to work through the night under harsh conditions.
Minister of State for Energy, Heeralal Nagar, announced on Saturday that the state is upgrading its power infrastructure to ensure daytime electricity for irrigation. This includes dividing 33 KV power supply lines and constructing new 33 KV sub-stations to alleviate overloading during the sowing of rabi crops. New agricultural power connections are also being released, and power supply is being improved through agricultural feeders. The improvements are being made under the revamped distribution sector scheme.
The Minister instructed officials to swiftly replace faulty transformers and process pending power connections promptly. He also emphasized the importance of informing farmers about the benefits of the Prime Minister’s Kisan Urja Suraksha Evum Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme and the PM Surya Ghar Yojana to boost their income.
The government aims to provide a minimum of six hours of daily electricity to agricultural consumers, while maintaining round-the-clock supply for domestic and industrial users. This initiative addresses concerns raised by farmers during various protests across the state regarding the dangers of nighttime irrigation, which exposes them to adverse weather, snakes, and insects.
