Sun Dec 08 03:38:58 UTC 2024: ## Mamata Banerjee’s Leadership of INDIA Alliance Considered
**New Delhi, December 8, 2024** – Speculation is mounting regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s potential leadership role within the INDIA opposition alliance. Following Banerjee’s reported willingness to lead the alliance, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule expressed her party’s support, stating that Banerjee is an “integral part” of INDIA and that they would welcome her taking on increased responsibility.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also commented positively, highlighting Banerjee’s success in keeping the BJP out of power in West Bengal and her strong election record. Chaturvedi indicated that a decision on the matter would be made by senior INDIA leaders at a future meeting.
These statements follow earlier suggestions from Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs. On December 3rd, TMC MP Kirti Azad praised Banerjee’s leadership and ability to unite diverse groups. Earlier still, on November 26th, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee had advocated for a stronger, single leader to head the INDIA alliance, suggesting the need for a stronger opposition force against the BJP. These calls for stronger leadership come after recent electoral setbacks for the Congress party in Maharashtra and Haryana.
