**BEIJING, CHINA** – Vijay Sethupathi’s Tamil action thriller, “Maharaja,” continues its box office triumph in China, grossing a remarkable ₹3.90 crore (USD 0.46 million) on its seventh day of release. The film, which debuted in China on November 29th, has now amassed a total of ₹40.75 crore (USD 4.82 million) in the country.
This impressive performance marks “Maharaja” as the highest-grossing Indian film in China since “Thugs of Hindostan” in 2018, and the 13th highest-grossing Indian film in the region overall. The film’s worldwide gross stands at ₹146.88 crore, with a net collection of ₹72.41 crore against a budget of ₹20 crore.
“Maharaja,” directed by Nithilan Saminathan and produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy, tells the story of a father seeking justice for his daughter. The film features a stellar cast including Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Sachana Namidass, Divyabharathi, and Singampuli.
Following its successful theatrical run, “Maharaja” is also streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu. Vijay Sethupathi himself announced the China release on Instagram, expressing his excitement.
