Sat Dec 07 18:36:26 UTC 2024: ## New Book on Lung Health Launched in Madurai

**Madurai, December 8, 2024** – Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu launched a new Tamil-language book on lung health, “Nuraiyiral Arinthathum Ariyathathum,” authored by pulmonologist M. Palaniappan, on Saturday. The book, previously published as a weekly column in a Tamil daily, aims to educate the public about lung health and various related diseases, including COPD, asthma, tuberculosis, and lung cancer.

Minister Thennarasu highlighted the often-overlooked importance of lung health, emphasizing the book’s role in providing accessible information on maintaining respiratory well-being. The book details symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments for common lung conditions.

Tamil nationalist leader Pazha Nedumaran connected the book’s relevance to the global issue of air pollution, citing alarming statistics of approximately 3 million annual deaths worldwide due to pollution-related lung diseases. He criticized the outcome of COP 29, highlighting the lack of decisive action by developed nations on reducing emissions.

Tamil scholar Solomon Pappaiah praised the book for filling a gap in Tamil-language medical literature, noting the scarcity of professional medical texts in the language. He also commented on the book’s timely message, addressing the overreliance on often-inaccurate information from social media.

The book launch was attended by several dignitaries, including Virudhunagar MP Manickam Tagore and Velammal Educational Trust founder M.V. Muthuramalingam.
