**KOLLAM, December 8, 2024** – The Kollam district panchayat launched a program on Sunday to distribute food kits worth ₹65 lakh to senior citizens battling cancer. President P.K. Gopan inaugurated the initiative, announcing that ₹40 lakh will be allocated for general category beneficiaries and ₹25 lakh for those belonging to the Scheduled Caste category.
Each kit, valued at ₹4,300, contains 31 kilograms of essential food items, including rice, pulses, nuts, and other staples. The first batch of 213 beneficiaries received their kits at the district panchayat, with remaining recipients to receive theirs at the block level. The program was attended by district officials and panchayat members.
