**AMES, Iowa** – The No. 6 Iowa State Cyclones handed the No. 5 Marquette Golden Eagles their first loss of the season with an 81-70 victory Wednesday night. Keshon Gilbert led the Cyclones with a season-high 24 points, overcoming a late nose injury to secure the win. Gilbert’s performance was complemented by strong contributions from Joshua Jefferson (15 points, 12 rebounds), Curtis Jones (14 points), and Dishon Jackson (11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks).

Marquette, led by Royce Parham’s 17 points, fought back in the second half but couldn’t overcome a decisive 14-0 Iowa State run. Kam Jones added 14 points for the Golden Eagles, but shot just 6-of-21 from the field. Despite the loss, Stevie Mitchell (13 points) and Demarius Owens (11 points) also contributed for Marquette.

The victory marks Iowa State’s first win over a ranked opponent this season. The Cyclones next face Jackson State on Sunday. Marquette will look to rebound when they host No. 11 Wisconsin on Saturday.
