Sun Dec 08 05:28:59 UTC 2024: ## Gilchrist Urges Australia to Bat Longer Against India in Adelaide Test

**Adelaide, Australia** – Legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has advised Australia’s struggling batsmen to spend more time at the crease to counter the threat of India’s pace attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, in the upcoming second Test in Adelaide. His comments come after Australia’s top order, including Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, failed to deliver in the first Test, which India won by a resounding 295 runs.

Gilchrist specifically highlighted the need for greater resilience, particularly from Labuschagne, who has been out of form. “Marnus had the responsibility to do that (stay at the crease) and he made a good attempt by facing over 50 balls,” Gilchrist said, as reported by Nine’s Wide World of Sports. “If you face 50-plus balls in a Test innings, you’re heading in the right direction. He hasn’t found a way to score runs yet, and probably all the Australian players will collectively try to do that now. It will create risks, but you succeed by taking risks.”

Despite Labuschagne’s recent struggles, Gilchrist voiced his support for retaining him in the team. “He needs to be reminded that he’s an incredibly skillful batsman,” Gilchrist stated. “I’m sure the people around him are already doing that. He needs to trust his practice.”

The second Test, a day-night match starting December 6th at the Adelaide Oval, is crucial for Australia as they trail 1-0 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. India’s recent victories, including a dominant win in the first Test and a win in a practice match against a Prime Minister’s XI, have put them in a strong position.
