Sun Dec 08 09:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Over 60 Ghanaian MPs Out of Next Parliament
**Accra, Ghana** – Ghana’s 2024 general elections have resulted in a significant turnover in Parliament. Over 60 sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) will not be returning to the House when the new Parliament convenes on January 7, 2025.
The departures stem from a combination of factors. Eighteen MPs from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) chose not to seek re-election. Following the NPP’s primaries, an additional 28 MPs lost their bids for re-nomination. Meanwhile, 16 MPs from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were also unsuccessful in their respective party primaries.
Adding to the shake-up, three defeated MPs are contesting the general election as independent candidates.
The next Parliament will thus feature a mix of returning MPs and new faces, reflecting a considerable shift in the political landscape.
