Sun Dec 08 11:38:55 UTC 2024: ## IndiGo Accused of Inaction After Passenger Reports Baggage Theft Mid-Flight

**New Delhi, December 7, 2024** – Trisha Shetty, founder of the NGO SheSays, has accused IndiGo airlines of failing to assist her mother after she was allegedly robbed on an IndiGo flight (6E 17). Shetty took to X (formerly Twitter) to detail the incident, claiming that while her mother slept, a fellow passenger stole her handbag from the overhead compartment. Shetty alleges that the flight crew not only failed to help her mother file a complaint but also made excuses for the thief.

According to Shetty, her mother only awoke when the passenger was attempting to replace the bag. Shetty further stated that other passengers reported the same individual was going through their belongings. While fellow passengers helped retrieve her mother’s belongings, Shetty criticized the crew’s handling of the situation, describing it as “terrible.”

IndiGo responded to Shetty’s allegations on X, stating that their crew addressed the situation by asking Shetty’s mother to verify her belongings, and she confirmed nothing was missing. The airline added that the crew explained she could file a formal complaint upon arrival but respected her decision not to do so due to a connecting flight. IndiGo also stated that security personnel are available upon arrival to assist passengers.

However, Shetty vehemently refuted IndiGo’s statement, claiming it was “categorically false.” She detailed that the crew questioned her mother’s proof of theft, even after other passengers corroborated her account. Shetty further alleges that the crew attempted to downplay the incident and discouraged her mother from filing a complaint. She stated she is now filing a complaint with the Civil Aviation Ministry.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion on X, with users sharing their concerns about airline security and expressing disbelief at the alleged inaction of the IndiGo crew. Some users recounted similar experiences on other airlines. The incident highlights growing concerns regarding passenger safety and security on Indian domestic flights.
