**Mysuru, Karnataka –** Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has accused the BJP of plotting to absorb and ultimately destroy its alliance partner, the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)). Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Mr. Gowda pointed to the recent Channapatna by-election results as evidence of the BJP’s alleged strategy. He noted the significant drop in JD(S) votes despite their alliance with the BJP, suggesting the BJP actively worked to siphon off JD(S) support to secure the Congress victory.
Mr. Gowda highlighted the substantial decrease in votes received by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in Channapatna compared to the 2023 Assembly elections, arguing that this decrease points to a deliberate BJP manoeuvre. He further claimed the BJP has used the JD(S) to win several seats in previous elections and intends to absorb the party completely after exploiting it for political gain.
While acknowledging the JD(S)’s long-standing presence in Karnataka’s political landscape and expressing his desire for its survival, Mr. Gowda warned the party about the perceived threat from the BJP. He contrasted this with the Congress’s approach, stating that the Congress does not aim to eliminate opposition parties and believes in maintaining a diverse political environment. Mr. Gowda also dismissed speculation surrounding Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s ambitions for the Chief Minister’s post, calling it unproductive media conjecture.
