Sun Dec 08 12:50:06 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Triumphs in Sabina Park, Leveling Series Against West Indies

**Kingston, Jamaica** – Bangladesh secured a resounding 101-run victory over West Indies in the second Test at Sabina Park, leveling the two-match series and claiming their first Test win in the Caribbean since 2009. Spinner Taijul Islam was the architect of the victory, capturing his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket with figures of 5-50, dismantling the West Indies batting order for 185 in their second innings.

Earlier, a blistering 91 from Jakir Ali propelled Bangladesh to 268 in their second innings, setting a challenging 287-run target for the hosts. Ali’s knock, featuring eight fours and five sixes, was crucial in turning the tide after Bangladesh resumed at 193-5. While Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach took three wickets each for the West Indies, Ali’s aggressive batting proved decisive.

While Kavem Hodge (55) and captain Kraigg Brathwaite (43) offered resistance for the West Indies, they lost wickets steadily, ultimately succumbing in just 50 overs. Nahid Rana, who also had a five-wicket haul in the first innings, claimed the final wicket, bowling Shamar Joseph. Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud provided crucial support with two wickets apiece, with Taskin emerging as the series’ leading wicket-taker (11 wickets).

“It’s a great feeling to win a Test match abroad,” said player-of-the-match Taijul Islam. Brathwaite, reflecting on the loss, commented, “We wanted to be positive… but obviously we couldn’t carry it through to the end of the day.”

The series was shared, with Taskin Ahmed and Jayden Seales jointly awarded the Player of the Series for their exceptional bowling performances. This win marks a significant comeback for Bangladesh after a 201-run defeat in the first Test.
