Sun Dec 08 01:23:13 UTC 2024: ## Columbia University Students Face Backlash Over Anti-Israel Newspaper

**New York, NY** – A student-produced newspaper, “The Columbia Intifada,” distributed on the Columbia University campus has sparked outrage and condemnation. The publication, created by members of the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and promoted by Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), features articles with titles such as “Zionist Peace Means Palestinian Blood” and “The Myth of the Two-State Solution,” along with instructions on “wheatpasting,” a method of vandalism.

Approximately 1,000 copies of the newspaper were distributed, prompting swift criticism. Columbia University distanced itself from the publication, stating that using the university’s name to promote violence and target members of the community is unacceptable. The university is investigating the incident.

Republican Congressman Mike Lawler took to X (formerly Twitter) to denounce the newspaper and call for consequences, suggesting the university lose federal funding and its tax-exempt status if it cannot protect Jewish students. He further called for the deportation of any students on visas involved in what he termed an “intifada” against Jewish students.

The incident follows a series of disruptive protests at Columbia University since the October 7 Hamas attacks, many of which have targeted Israel and Jewish students specifically. The term “intifada,” meaning uprising or rebellion, is viewed by some as a call for peaceful resistance to Israeli occupation, while others see it as inciting violence against Israelis and Jewish people. Two previous intifadas in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict were marked by significant violence and loss of life. The controversy highlights the ongoing tensions and sensitivities surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on college campuses across the United States.
