Sun Dec 08 17:02:51 UTC 2024: ## McLaren Crowned Formula 1 Constructors’ Champions After Abu Dhabi Thriller

**Abu Dhabi, UAE** – McLaren has clinched the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship for the first time since 2008, ending a 15-year title drought. Lando Norris secured a stunning victory at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, leading a McLaren 1-2 finish ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. This victory also marks McLaren’s ninth constructors’ title, tying them with Williams for second place in all-time wins, behind only Ferrari.

The win was hard-fought. Oscar Piastri, McLaren’s second driver, was involved in a first-corner incident with Max Verstappen, resulting in a penalty for the Red Bull driver. Piastri himself received a later penalty but still finished in the points. However, Norris’s commanding performance proved more than enough to secure the championship for McLaren by a 14-point margin over Ferrari.

McLaren’s championship push began with a significant car upgrade at the Miami Grand Prix in May, catapulting Norris and Piastri into consistent podium contention. While Norris challenged for the drivers’ championship throughout the season, ultimately finishing behind Max Verstappen, his team’s victory in the constructors’ race signifies a remarkable resurgence for the iconic team. The victory ends Red Bull’s record-breaking 55-race streak at the top of the constructors’ standings, a streak that ended in Azerbaijan in September.
