Sun Dec 08 13:08:14 UTC 2024: ## Veteran West Indies Batsman Banned for Four Matches

**Port of Spain, Trinidad –** Veteran West Indies batsman John Campbell has been banned for four matches by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for his refusal to participate in the toss of the Super50 Cup final on November 24th. The ban, announced on December 6th, stems from an incident where Campbell, captain of Jamaica Scorpions, disobeyed the match referee and umpires’ instructions to proceed with a reduced-overs match despite a rain delay.

The final match against Barbados Pride was delayed due to inclement weather. After a delay, the umpires and match referee deemed the conditions suitable for a shortened 20-over game and instructed both captains to proceed to the toss. However, both Campbell and Barbados captain, Ramon Reifer, failed to appear for the toss, leading to the match being abandoned without a result or prize money awarded.

Campbell has since admitted his wrongdoing in a letter to the match referee and apologized for his conduct. Reifer, however, has yet to respond to the charges, although CWI has indicated he faces a similar punishment and will be referred to the disciplinary committee should he fail to respond. The four-match ban imposed on Campbell will be served during the next season of the Super50 Cup in 2025. The CWI press release stressed that the actions of both captains violated the code of conduct.
