Sun Dec 08 15:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Braces for Cold Wave as Temperatures Plunge After Rain
**New Delhi, India** – A sudden downpour in Delhi-NCR on Sunday evening has ushered in a sharp drop in temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of an impending cold wave across North India. The IMD forecasts a cold wave, or “sheetalhar,” between December 10th and 14th, impacting Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh most severely. Dense fog is also expected to accompany the plummeting temperatures, potentially disrupting daily life.
The IMD’s prediction of cloudy skies and light rain on December 8th proved accurate, with the resulting rainfall contributing to the current chill. Delhi’s minimum temperature currently hovers around 7°C but is expected to fall to approximately 3°C after December 10th. Snowfall in the Himalayas and western disturbances are exacerbating the cold snap. Dense fog is anticipated across many parts of North India on December 9th and 10th.
Hissar in Haryana is currently experiencing the coldest temperatures, with a minimum of 4.7°C. Delhi’s minimum temperature is projected to gradually decrease to 2-3°C by December 11th, with the cold spell continuing through at least December 18th. A dense fog warning has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, particularly from the night of December 7th to the morning of December 10th. Residents are advised to take precautions against the severe cold and potential disruption caused by fog.
