Sat Dec 07 08:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Katich Slams Australia’s “Disgraceful” Slow Over-Rate in Adelaide Test
Adelaide, Australia – Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich has slammed Australia’s slow over-rate on the first day of the second Test against India, calling it a “disgrace.” Australia dismissed India for a paltry 180 runs but managed only 44.1 overs in the first two sessions, a performance that drew sharp criticism from Katich during his commentary stint.
Katich, particularly critical of captain Pat Cummins’ decision to bowl Nathan Lyon only one over in the first innings, advocated for harsher penalties for slow over-rates, suggesting suspensions for captains as a potential solution. He highlighted that while fines are currently imposed, they haven’t been effective in improving the situation. “Captains are responsible; we know they are, because they’re the ones that are copping fines,” Katich stated, “But we know the fines aren’t working…Potentially it’s going to be suspensions for Test matches.”
Despite the slow over-rate, Australia made a strong comeback after their heavy defeat in Perth, bowling out India for 180 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored for India with 42 runs. The match continues at Adelaide Oval.
