Sat Dec 07 03:10:49 UTC 2024: ## Mozilla Ditches Iconic Dinosaur Logo for Modern Makeover

**SAN FRANCISCO** – Mozilla, the non-profit behind the Firefox browser, has unveiled a dramatically redesigned brand identity, abandoning its long-standing Tyrannosaurus Rex logo for a new visual system featuring custom typefaces and a minimalist, ASCII-inspired dinosaur mascot.

The new branding, developed in collaboration with branding agency JKR, incorporates the custom fonts Mozilla Semi-Slab, Mozilla Sans, and Mozilla Sans Text, and replaces the “Moz://a” wordmark with a fully spelled-out “Mozilla.” The vibrant green, pink, and orange color palette is consistent with the Firefox browser’s accent color.

Mozilla’s president, Mark Surman, explained that the updated identity reflects the organization’s activist spirit and commitment to openness, innovation, and internet participation. The new ASCII dinosaur mascot is a nod to the original 1998 “Hack” poster featuring a T-Rex, and is intended as a rallying cry for the Mozilla community.

While the new logo has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising its modern aesthetic and others criticizing its departure from the familiar dinosaur, Mozilla’s brand head, Amy Bebbington, stated that the rollout aims to increase brand awareness and solidify Mozilla’s position at the forefront of internet advocacy. The new visuals are currently being implemented across the Mozilla website. The organization hopes the new branding will resonate with “grassroots coders, government officials, and everyday consumers looking to reclaim control of their digital lives.”
