HYDERABAD, December 7, 2024 – Lalitha Anand, wife of Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, is set to make her Bharatanatyam debut at the age of 57. Anand, a PhD holder from IIT-Madras and accomplished researcher in mathematical statistics, will perform her arangetram (debut performance) at Ravindra Bharati on December 8th.
Her journey back to dance is as remarkable as her academic achievements. After years of prioritizing her career and family, Anand rediscovered her passion for Bharatanatyam in 2021, using dance as a form of physical therapy to combat health challenges including diabetes and back pain. She credits dance, alongside water therapy and a disciplined diet, for her recovery.
Anand’s guru, Vyshnavie Sainath, praised her humility and eagerness to learn, noting that Anand’s dedication transcended age and status. Anand herself emphasizes the personal joy and self-expression that dance brings, viewing her performance not as a competition but as a tribute to the art form.
Anand’s arangetram will feature a specially choreographed Varnam dedicated to Lord Shiva, reflecting her personal devotion. The performance is seen as an inspiring example of pursuing passions later in life, balancing personal fulfillment with a demanding career.
