Sat Dec 07 12:26:16 UTC 2024: ## Mahindra Renames Electric SUV After IndiGo Lawsuit

**NEW DELHI** – Mahindra & Mahindra has bowed to pressure from InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo airlines, and renamed its upcoming electric SUV. The vehicle, originally called the “BE 6e,” will now be known as the “BE 6” following a lawsuit filed by IndiGo in the Delhi High Court.

IndiGo argued that the similarity between Mahindra’s “BE 6e” and its own IATA call sign “6E” could cause confusion among consumers. Mahindra, however, maintains that the names are distinct and that its trademark application covers a different industry sector. The company points out that the “BE” portion of the name refers to its “born electric” platform and that the styling of the SUV is significantly different from anything associated with IndiGo.

In a statement, Mahindra expressed its disappointment with the lawsuit, noting that Tata Motors previously faced a similar objection from InterGlobe regarding the use of the name “Indigo” for its car brand, yet InterGlobe continued to use the name “IndiGo.” Mahindra calls IndiGo’s objection inconsistent and claims that it sets a bad precedent for trademark disputes.

While changing the name to avoid further legal battles, Mahindra insists the claim is baseless and plans to contest the lawsuit, asserting its right to use the “BE 6e” branding. The company emphasized its commitment to its electric vehicle strategy and its desire to avoid distractions from its goal of popularizing electric transport in India.
