Sat Dec 07 05:11:53 UTC 2024: ## Australia Dominates Day 1 of Adelaide Test, India Falters

**Adelaide, Australia:** Australia ended Day 1 of the second Test against India in a commanding position, after bowling out the visitors for a paltry 180 runs and then reaching 86/1 at stumps, leaving them with a 94-run lead.

India, electing to bat first after winning the toss, suffered a disastrous start with Yashasvi Jaiswal dismissed on the very first ball. While KL Rahul (37) and Shubman Gill (31) offered some resistance, Mitchell Starc wreaked havoc, claiming a career-best 6/48, as India’s batting order crumbled. Scott Boland and Pat Cummins also picked up two wickets each. Nitish Reddy provided a lone bright spot for India with a fighting 42.

Australia’s reply was steadier, with Usman Khawaja (13) falling to Jasprit Bumrah early on. However, Marnus Labuschagne (20) and Nathan McAndrew (30) steadied the ship, putting on a crucial 62-run partnership before the close of play. Bumrah also claimed the wickets of Steve Smith (2) and McAndrew (39) late in the innings.

The Indian team made three changes to their playing XI from the first Test, bringing back Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Australia also made one change, with Scott Boland replacing the injured Josh Hazlewood. India won the first Test in Perth, setting up a closely-contested series.

The second day promises to be crucial, with India needing early wickets to prevent Australia from building a substantial lead. The match is being played at the Adelaide Oval under lights, adding another layer of complexity to the contest.
