Sat Dec 07 05:04:10 UTC 2024: ## High-Speed Bus Crash on Agra-Lucknow Expressway Leaves Multiple Injured
**Kanauj, Uttar Pradesh:** A major accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway resulted in numerous injuries after a sleeper bus collided with a water tanker on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1 PM near kilometer 140 in the Sakrawa area.
The Raj Kalpana Travels sleeper bus, traveling at high speed, rear-ended a water tanker that was watering plants. The impact was so severe that the tanker overturned after crossing the divider, while the bus was completely wrecked and spun around, facing towards Lucknow.
The sound of the crash alerted nearby villagers, who rushed to the scene along with UPIDA (Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority) personnel. They worked together to extricate the injured passengers from the wreckage. The scene was described as gruesome, with blood visible across the expressway.
Most passengers were asleep or using mobile phones at the time of the accident, and there were screams upon impact. Some passengers had to jump out through windows as doors were jammed. The UPIDA team eventually broke open the locked windows to free remaining passengers and recover their belongings.
At least 12 ambulances, from various sources including UPIDA, RBGEL (Rajasthan Bypass Greenfield Expressway Ltd.), IDCCL (Indraprastha Gas Limited), and local hospitals, arrived at the scene. The injured were rushed to hospitals in Saurikh, Tirwa, and Saifai Medical College.
The bus, registered in Gwalior on October 29th, had a permit for 47 passengers, but was carrying 50 at the time of the accident. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. The bus’s fitness certificate was valid until October 28, 2026, and its insurance was valid until July 29, 2025. The CO (Circle Officer) of Chibramau, Omkar Nath Sharma, stated that a full investigation into the incident is being conducted.
