Sat Dec 07 08:34:36 UTC 2024: ## Governor Skips Ambedkar Death Anniversary Event, Citing Lack of Protocol
**Shimla, Himachal Pradesh** – A potential rift between the Governor and Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh emerged on Friday after Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla skipped a state function commemorating Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s death anniversary. Shukla expressed dissatisfaction at not being named chief guest, a role filled by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
While Shukla paid his respects to Ambedkar at Raj Bhavan, his official residence, he stated to the media that the invitation received from the Shimla Municipal Corporation was a general one, lacking direct communication from officials. He highlighted the contrast with his attendance at Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations in April, where he was the chief guest. Shukla emphasized the importance of understanding the Constitution’s principles.
Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surinder Chauhan attributed the oversight to a possible misunderstanding, clarifying that the corporation had indeed sent an invitation to Raj Bhavan. He explained that the Governor was chief guest at the birth anniversary event due to the Model Code of Conduct then in place for by-polls, preventing the CM from taking that role. Chauhan promised to personally clarify the situation with the Governor.
Meanwhile, CM Sukhu paid tribute to Ambedkar at Chaura Maidan, emphasizing Ambedkar’s contribution to ensuring equal rights and democratic values in India. The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including ministers, MLAs, and officials.
