Sat Dec 07 05:51:12 UTC 2024: ## Haryana Government Cracks Down on Ration Depot Irregularities
**Sirsa, Haryana:** The Haryana government is taking stringent measures to curb irregularities in the state’s public distribution system (PDS). Following numerous complaints of ration depots being closed and ration shortages, the government announced a series of reforms aimed at ensuring fair and consistent ration distribution.
Food Supply Minister Rajesh Nagar, during a departmental review meeting, directed officials to immediately revoke the licenses of any ration depots receiving complaints of malpractice. He also announced increased monitoring, with personal inspections planned beginning in December.
To improve accessibility, the government will mandate that ration depots remain open for 30 days a month, with opening hours in both the morning and evening. Public announcements will be made to inform villagers and city residents of depot operating hours. Additionally, the government is exploring the installation of CCTV cameras in depots to further monitor distribution and prevent irregularities.
This move mirrors similar efforts in Uttar Pradesh, where depots are also required to open twice daily during winter months. The Haryana government’s aim is to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their full ration entitlement without facing obstacles. The government intends to take strong action against any depot holder found engaging in fraudulent activities.
