Sat Dec 07 13:43:35 UTC 2024: ## Mysuru Launches 100-Day Campaign to Eradicate Tuberculosis
**Mysuru, December 7, 2024** – A 100-day tuberculosis (TB) awareness campaign was launched in Mysuru on Saturday, aiming to eliminate the disease from the district. The campaign will prioritize tribal settlements, with a target of detecting 4,200 cases.
Zilla Panchayat CEO K.M. Gayathri inaugurated the campaign, emphasizing the need for cooperation from health officials and the public. The initiative includes a provision to adopt TB patients through the “Nikshaya” portal, allowing individuals to support patients with medication.
Ms. Gayathri highlighted the importance of early detection, preventing transmission, and ensuring treatment adherence. She urged increased testing in rural areas, emphasizing the crucial roles of health officials and ASHA workers. Free treatment is available in government healthcare facilities, along with ₹500 aid per identified patient.
Divisional Assistant Director K.H. Prasad underscored the contagious nature of TB, noting that a single patient can potentially infect up to 40 others. He stressed the importance of completing the eight-month treatment course, as incomplete treatment can lead to relapse. Mr. Prasad pointed out that while developed nations have largely eradicated TB, it remains a challenge in developing countries, particularly in densely populated areas. The campaign aims to address this by focusing on village-level detection and treatment.
