CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu actor and politician Vijay has challenged the ruling DMK alliance, predicting its downfall in the 2026 assembly elections. Speaking at a book launch event on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Vijay asserted that the alliance’s strength wouldn’t be enough to secure another term.
He criticized the alliance’s calculations, stating that it would be reduced to “zero” by the next election. Vijay advocated for a government that prioritizes the welfare of Tamil Nadu and genuinely cares for its people.
The event saw the notable absence of VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, a DMK ally, who reportedly avoided attending to prevent fueling speculation about the alliance. Vijay acknowledged Thirumavalavan’s absence, attributing it to alliance pressures, while expressing confidence that Thirumavalavan’s support remained with him.
Vijay further condemned several incidents in Tamil Nadu as violations of social justice and equality, lamenting the lack of response from the central government to issues such as the Manipur crisis. He stressed the importance of fair elections to strengthen democracy.
