**Chennai, December 7, 2024:** Actor and Tamil Nadu Makkal Needhi Maiam (TNM) president Vijay has predicted a defeat for the ruling party in the 2026 state assembly elections, citing the government’s failure to provide basic amenities and protection to the people. Speaking at the launch of a book on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Vijay criticized both the central and state governments for their inaction on crucial issues.
Vijay accused the central government of neglecting the Manipur crisis and slammed the state government for its lack of response to the water contamination incident in Vengavayal. He asserted that a government that works for the people will come to power in 2024.
He also called for Ambedkar’s birthday to be observed as National Democracy Day, emphasizing the importance of free and fair elections. Vijay expressed confidence that even TNM leader Thirumalavalan, who withdrew from the book launch event due to pressure from coalition partners, remains sympathetic to their cause. The book, “Ellorkkum Thalaivar Ambedkar,” compiles writings on Dr. Ambedkar and was authored by TNM deputy general secretary Aadhav Arjun.
