Fri Dec 06 10:50:00 UTC 2024: ## West Michigan Braces for Another Lake-Effect Snowstorm, Thousands Without Power
**KALAMAZOO, Mich. –** West Michigan is facing another significant lake-effect snowstorm, just as the previous one begins to subside. A winter storm watch is in effect from Wednesday evening through late Thursday night for western counties, warning of potentially hazardous conditions.
The National Weather Service predicts a widespread 3-8 inches of snow, with localized accumulations potentially reaching 9 inches in areas experiencing heavy lake-effect bands. Strong northwest winds, gusting up to 45-50 mph, are expected to create blizzard-like conditions with near-zero visibility (“whiteouts”) at times, particularly near the lakeshore. Icy roads and significantly reduced visibility (1/4 mile or less) are also anticipated, making travel extremely dangerous.
Temperatures will plummet Thursday morning, reaching the upper teens and lower twenties, but wind chills are expected to make it feel much colder, potentially dipping below zero.
Adding to the challenges, thousands of West Michigan residents are already without power due to the earlier storm, according to Consumers Energy. Residents are urged to monitor the Consumers Energy outage map and to stay tuned to News Channel 3 for further weather updates. The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm.
