Thu Dec 05 19:41:22 UTC 2024: ## Madras High Court Orders Speedy Decision on Samsung Workers’ Union Registration
**Chennai, December 6, 2024** – The Madras High Court has directed the Registrar of Trade Unions to decide within six weeks on an application for the registration of the Samsung India Thozhilalar Sangam, a union affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). The application, filed on June 25, 2024, has been pending for months.
Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy issued the order after hearing arguments from the union’s representative, who argued that the Registrar’s inaction was unacceptable. Samsung India Electronics Private Limited had opposed the registration, objecting to the use of the “Samsung” name in the union’s title.
This legal battle follows a 38-day strike at Samsung’s Chennai factory between September and October of this year, stemming from a dispute over the union’s registration. The High Court’s intervention aims to resolve the ongoing conflict between the workers and management.
