**NEW DELHI, December 6, 2024** – The Delhi Comic Con, celebrating its 12th anniversary this year, has grown from humble beginnings to become a major cultural event. What started in 2011 as a small gathering of 13 cosplayers and comic enthusiasts at Dilli Haat has exploded into a massive three-day spectacle at the NSIC Grounds in Okhla, attracting thousands of attendees and cosplayers.

Founder Jatin Varma reflects on the event’s evolution, highlighting the shift from a niche gathering to a mainstream phenomenon fueled by the global popularity of pop culture, anime, and Marvel franchises. Cosplay, once a novelty, has become the heart of the event, with participants describing the experience as transformative and empowering.

This year’s Comic Con boasts a significant commercial presence, with sponsors like Maruti Suzuki, Crunchyroll, and Yamaha India contributing immersive experiences and financial backing. However, Varma emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balance between commercialization and fan service.

Crunchyroll, capitalizing on the rising popularity of anime in India, has created a “Solo Leveling Dome,” offering an immersive experience based on the popular manhwa series, and a meet-and-greet with actor Rana Daggubati, who voices the Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs.

The event features a wide range of attractions, from gaming tournaments and live performances by stand-up comedians like Rohan Joshi to appearances by international guests including New York Times bestselling author Ryan North and Eisner-winning artist Jason Loo, alongside prominent Indian creators.

The event’s success is attributed not only to its impressive scale but also to the strong sense of community fostered among attendees. Varma credits fan-generated content on social media as the most effective form of marketing, showcasing the authentic enthusiasm of the Comic Con community.
