Fri Dec 06 11:30:20 UTC 2024: ## Australian Cricket Mourns Passing of Legendary Ian Redpath

**Adelaide, Australia (December 1, 2024)** – A pall of grief has fallen over Australian cricket with the passing of former Test specialist Ian Redpath at the age of 83. The news comes as India and Australia are locked in a closely fought Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series, with India having already secured a resounding victory in the first match in Perth.

Redpath, a celebrated opening batsman, played 66 Test matches and five ODIs for Australia between 1964 and 1976. He made his Test debut against South Africa in 1964, scoring a magnificent 97 runs – narrowly missing a century. His ODI debut came in 1971 against England.

Throughout his distinguished Test career, Redpath amassed 4737 runs at an impressive average of 43.45, including eight centuries. He scored his maiden Test century against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground in February 1969, and memorably ended his career with three centuries in four innings against the West Indies in 1975-76. His ODI record, though less extensive, saw him score 46 runs at an average of 9.20. Redpath was inducted into the Cricket Australia Hall of Fame in January 2023.

This is the second recent loss for Australian cricket, following the death of 23-year-old Eddie Dave just last week. Dave, who played in an intra-squad match with David Warner and Steve Smith in Darwin in 2017, was a promising young player. The Australian cricket community is in mourning following these two devastating losses.
