RUDRAPUR— A heated confrontation erupted Thursday at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Park in Rudrapur between followers of Dr. Ambedkar and street vendors operating within the park. Members of the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Yuva Manch warned the vendors to vacate the park, leading to a tense standoff. Police intervened to de-escalate the situation, which involved shouting matches and a near physical altercation between the two groups.
The Ambedkar followers, who had previously submitted multiple appeals to the municipality, complained about the lack of action against the vendors despite repeated requests for their removal. They cited concerns about sanitation and the park’s aesthetics ahead of Dr. Ambedkar’s upcoming birth anniversary celebrations on Friday. Deepak Sagar, an officer of the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Yuva Manch, stated that the park’s condition is unacceptable and threatened further protests if the vendors are not removed by Saturday. He warned that a large-scale demonstration will be held if the vendors remain. The municipality has yet to respond to the ongoing complaints.
