Thu Dec 05 12:44:54 UTC 2024: ## Farmers to March for Koushika River Revival

**Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu – December 5, 2024** – Members of the Cauvery Vaigai, Kiruthumal Gundar Irrigation Farmers Federation will undertake a two-day march from Virudhunagar to Irrukkangudi dam, starting December 26th, to protest the pollution and encroachment of the Koushika River. The march aims to raise awareness about the river’s deteriorating condition, which has rendered thousands of acres of farmland uncultivable.

The federation cites untreated sewage from residential areas, commercial establishments, and the Virudhunagar municipality as the primary cause of pollution. This has severely impacted agricultural lands under the Kullursandhai (2,891 acres), Golwarpatti (4,500 acres), and Irrukkangudi (10,000 acres) dams.

The march, under the slogan “Save Koushika,” will cover a significant distance, passing through numerous villages before concluding at Irrukkangudi dam on December 27th. The federation is appealing for support from all farmers’ associations, environmental activists, elected representatives, and other organizations.
