**ALAPPUZHA, KERALA – DECEMBER 5, 2024** – The death toll from a tragic road accident in Alappuzha, Kerala, has risen to six after another medical student succumbed to his injuries. Albin George, a first-year MBBS student from Edathua, passed away Thursday. He had been critically injured in a Monday night collision between a car carrying eleven medical students and a KSRTC bus in Kalarcode. Five students died at the scene.
The surviving students, four of whom remain hospitalized with serious injuries at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Alappuzha, were reportedly on their way to a movie. One student sustained only minor injuries. The driver of the car, Gowri Sankar, has been charged under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (causing death by negligence).
Investigations revealed the students rented the car from an unauthorized rental facility. Authorities have identified the owner and are taking action against them. The Alappuzha South police have submitted a report on the accident to a local court.
