Thu Dec 05 14:08:12 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Gets New Government: Fadnavis Sworn in as CM, Shinde and Ajit Pawar as Deputy CMs

**Mumbai, December 5, 2023** – Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in for a third term as Chief Minister of Maharashtra today in a grand ceremony at Azad Maidan. The ceremony also saw the swearing-in of Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Ministers. This marks Ajit Pawar’s record sixth term as Deputy CM, a milestone he celebrated by wearing his signature pink jacket. In a unique touch, Pawar deviated from the standard oath, choosing to use the phrase “I solemnly affirm…” instead of “I swear…”.

The event drew a massive crowd of over 40,000 citizens, along with hundreds of dignitaries, religious leaders, and Bollywood celebrities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and numerous Union Ministers attended, alongside Chief Ministers from 22 BJP-ruled states. Even Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali were present. The sheer number of attendees forced organizers to close entry after Prime Minister Modi’s arrival.

The new government’s formation comes swiftly after the state assembly election results were announced on November 23rd. While only Fadnavis, Shinde, and Pawar took the oath today, a cabinet expansion is expected on December 11th, sparking intense speculation about the upcoming ministerial appointments. The event was a massive display of the ruling coalition’s strength, drawing supporters from across the state.
