Thu Dec 05 13:00:46 UTC 2024: ## BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Treason, Sparking Parliamentary Chaos
**New Delhi, December 5, 2024** – The Indian Parliament descended into chaos today following a blistering attack by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of being a “traitor” in league with American agencies and billionaire George Soros to destabilize India. The accusations, levelled during a heated parliamentary session, triggered strong condemnation from the Congress party and led to temporary adjournments in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The BJP’s offensive stemmed from a recent report by French publication Mediapart, which highlighted alleged links between the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a global investigative journalism network, and the US government. The BJP cited OCCRP reports critical of the Indian government, particularly those concerning the Covaxin vaccine and the Pegasus spyware allegations, claiming these reports were subsequently used by the Congress to attack the ruling party.
BJP MP Sambit Patra, in a fiery press conference, described a “dangerous triangle” comprising Soros, unnamed US agencies, and the OCCRP, alleging that Rahul Gandhi was a key player in this alleged conspiracy. Patra accused Gandhi of following OCCRP directives and betraying India. These accusations were echoed in Parliament by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who used highly derogatory language against Gandhi and the Congress party, further escalating tensions. Dubey also demanded an investigation into Gandhi’s meetings with US lawmakers critical of Prime Minister Modi.
The Congress vehemently condemned the BJP’s accusations, with senior leader KC Venugopal describing the language used against Gandhi as “unacceptable.” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor criticized Dubey for violating parliamentary rules and demanded an apology and expungement of the remarks from the record. The Congress described the entire episode as a waste of parliamentary time.
The accusations and ensuing parliamentary uproar mark a significant escalation in the ongoing political battle between the BJP and the Congress, highlighting the sensitive nature of foreign influence allegations in Indian politics. The Congress’s response underscores the party’s determination to defend itself against what it views as unwarranted and defamatory attacks.
