**The Hague, Netherlands** – Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 war, citing dehumanizing statements by Israeli officials, satellite imagery showing widespread destruction, and field reports detailing civilian casualties. The organization released a 300-page report detailing its findings, which it claims constitute a “wake-up call” for the international community.

Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard stated that the evidence shows a deliberate attempt by Israel to destroy the Palestinian population, citing numerous air strikes that killed civilians where no military targets were present. The report specifically highlights 15 air strikes between October 7, 2023 and April 20, 2024, resulting in the deaths of 334 civilians, including 141 children, with no evidence of military objectives. The report also details the widespread suffering of Palestinians due to malnutrition, hunger, and disease, characterizing the situation as a “slow, calculated death.”

The organization points to the high civilian death toll in Gaza, with at least 44,532 fatalities reported by the Hamas-run health ministry, a figure deemed reliable by the UN. Amnesty International also emphasizes that states supplying arms to Israel may be complicit in genocide under international law.

Israel has vehemently denied the allegations, accusing Hamas of using Palestinians as human shields. While acknowledging Israel’s military objectives, Callamard insisted that these do not negate the possibility of genocidal intent.

Amnesty International has announced it will also release a separate report detailing crimes committed by Hamas during their October 7 attack, which resulted in the deaths of 1,208 Israelis, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally. The attack also saw the seizure of 251 hostages, some of whom were subsequently killed. The organization’s dual reports highlight the complexities and devastating consequences of the ongoing conflict.
