Thu Dec 05 10:07:55 UTC 2024: ## Ex-BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar Granted Interim Bail in Unnao Rape Case

**New Delhi:** Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a former BJP MLA, has been granted two weeks of interim bail by the Delhi High Court in connection with the 2017 Unnao rape case. The bail was granted on grounds of ill health. The court ordered that Sengar undergo a thorough medical examination at AIIMS, Delhi, to determine if his treatment should continue there or if he needs to be transferred to another hospital. He will be under observation at AIIMS for three to four days before a decision is made regarding his continued treatment in Delhi.

If released from the hospital, Sengar must reside at a location known to investigating officers and is prohibited from contacting the victim’s family. Local CBI officers will monitor his movements closely in coordination with AIIMS authorities.

Sengar was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2017, a case that caused nationwide outrage. The girl was lured to Sengar’s residence with a job offer and subjected to a nine-day ordeal of gang rape. He also received a 10-year sentence in connection with the custodial death of the victim’s father. A separate bail application related to this custodial death case is currently pending before another High Court bench. Sengar had cited eye problems among other health issues in his bail plea. He was previously granted interim bail to attend his daughter’s wedding.
