**New Delhi, December 4, 2024** – The Supreme Court today ordered the transfer of two FIRs against West Bengal BJP leader Kabir Shankar Bose to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The FIRs relate to a 2020 scuffle between Mr. Bose’s security staff and Trinamool Congress workers.
The Court’s decision came in response to a plea filed by Mr. Bose, who claimed that the West Bengal Police investigation was biased. He alleged that he and his Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guards were attacked by a large group of Trinamool Congress supporters outside his residence in Serampore, West Bengal. Mr. Bose asserted that he was not present during the main altercation, and that the CISF acted solely to protect him.
The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Pankaj Mithal, granted Mr. Bose’s request to transfer the investigation to an independent agency, citing concerns about impartiality. The court also considered Mr. Bose’s request for a stay on further proceedings in the state police investigation, although details regarding this aspect of the ruling were not immediately available. The CBI will now take over the investigation into the 2020 incident.
