Wed Dec 04 10:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Cubs Bolster Rotation with Two-Year, $29 Million Deal for Veteran Pitcher Matthew Boyd

**CHICAGO –** The Chicago Cubs have made their first major offseason splash, signing veteran left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd to a two-year, $29 million contract, sources confirmed to ESPN. The deal, which includes an additional $1 million in potential performance bonuses, is contingent upon Boyd passing a physical.

Boyd, 33, enjoyed a successful comeback season in 2023 after recovering from Tommy John surgery. In eight starts with the Cleveland Guardians, he posted a 2.72 ERA and a 2-2 record. His strong performance extended to the postseason, where he allowed just one run over 11⅔ innings while striking out 14 batters in three starts.

The former Guardian, who signed with Cleveland in June, will join a Cubs rotation that already features Justin Steele, Shota Imanaga, and Jameson Taillon. The Cubs aim to improve on their back-to-back 83-79 seasons, which saw them finish second in the NL Central.
