Wed Dec 04 05:52:13 UTC 2024: ## Chennai Coaching Centre Ordered to Pay ₹38,000 Compensation to Student

**Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, December 4, 2024** – A Chennai-based coaching centre has been ordered to pay ₹38,000 in compensation to a former student for failing to provide adequate instruction. The Namakkal District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

P. Dinesh, a 24-year-old resident of Namakkal district, enrolled in a short-term computer course at the centre in June 2023, paying a fee of ₹26,000. However, due to a teacher shortage, classes were abruptly curtailed after only two weeks. The centre’s failure to appoint replacements prompted Dinesh to seek alternative training.

When the coaching centre refused to refund his fees, Dinesh filed a case with the Namakkal DCDRC in May 2024. Following an investigation, DCDRC Commissioner V. Ramaraj ordered the centre to repay the full fee of ₹26,000, plus an additional ₹12,000 in compensation, within one month. The ruling concludes a case highlighting consumer rights within the education sector in Tamil Nadu.
