Wed Dec 04 10:34:01 UTC 2024: ## Minor Earthquake Shakes Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India -** A minor earthquake rattled parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Wednesday morning, causing brief moments of panic among residents. The tremors, lasting approximately two seconds, were felt in several districts, including Vijayawada, Jaggayyapeta, Tiruvuru, Gampalagudem, Krishna, Eluru, and West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, as well as areas around Amaravati. In Telangana, the tremors were felt in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Hanumakonda, Warangal, Kottagudem, Charla, and Manuguru in Khammam.

The earthquake, which struck between 7:27 AM and 7:29 AM, registered a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale in Telangana. The epicenter was reportedly located about 40 kilometers from Mulugu. While residents reported feeling their homes shake and furniture move, there were no reports of significant damage or casualties. In Tiruvuru, people in Shanti Nagar, Sundarayya Colony, and the CPI(M) office area were particularly affected. Similar reports came in from Gampalagudem and several villages in the Eluru district’s agency areas.

Authorities confirmed that the earthquake’s epicenter was relatively deep underground, minimizing the potential for significant damage. Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana fall under seismic zone 2, indicating a low risk of severe earthquakes. Reports suggest that tremors were also felt in parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. While the brief tremors caused alarm, the lack of damage underscores the relatively low intensity of the event.
