**Patna, Bihar –** A shocking revelation emerged Tuesday regarding death threats against Independent Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan, better known as Pappu Yadav. Bihar police arrested 21-year-old Rambabu Yadav, who confessed to threatening the MP on the instructions of Yadav’s own associate. The associate allegedly promised Rambabu ₹2 lakh and a future leadership role in exchange for the threat.
According to Purnia Superintendent of Police Kartikey K. Sharma, the plot was designed to bolster Yadav’s security detail, and there is no evidence linking the threat to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who are suspected of being behind the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. The threat was conveyed via a WhatsApp message on December 1st, demanding an apology from Yadav for his remarks about the Bishnoi gang, failing which he would be killed within 24 hours. Two videos were created as part of the plan, with one used to deliver the threat and the other retained for future use. Police have recovered both videos. Rambabu Yadav, formerly a member of Pappu Yadav’s Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik), was arrested.
Yadav, a six-time MP, has received numerous death threats over the past two months since publicly vowing to dismantle the Bishnoi gang’s network. Despite receiving over 20 threats and requesting enhanced Z-plus security, his requests were reportedly unsuccessful. He even received a bulletproof Land Cruiser from a friend following numerous threats.
Reacting to the police’s revelation, Yadav took to social media, questioning the lack of action on threats received from Malaysia, Pakistan, and Nepal, and accusing the Bihar police of playing with his security and spreading lies. He compared the situation to the case of late Congress MLA Hemant Shahi, alleging a similar pattern of negligence.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have yet to reveal the identity of Yadav’s associate involved in the plot.
