**Mumbai, India –** Negotiations to resolve the impasse over the hosting of the 2025 Champions Trophy have hit a major snag, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rejecting a proposed “hybrid model” suggested by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The PCB had initially agreed to a hybrid model where India’s matches would be held in a neutral venue, reportedly Dubai, but with the condition that future ICC events in India also adopt the same arrangement. This condition, citing security concerns, was immediately rejected by the BCCI, which maintains there are no such threats within India.
A source close to the BCCI told *The Telegraph India* that the board has communicated its stance firmly to the International Cricket Council (ICC), creating a fresh crisis. The BCCI’s position is that a hybrid model is unnecessary for events held in India.
The dispute puts the hosting of the Champions Trophy in serious jeopardy. The PCB, which currently holds the hosting rights, has threatened to withdraw from the tournament if it is moved. India is scheduled to host several major ICC events in the coming years, including the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2026 (jointly with Sri Lanka). The 2029 Champions Trophy and the 2031 ODI World Cup are also slated for India.
While the ICC is reportedly working to find a solution and will reconvene in the coming days, the deadlock continues to escalate, raising significant concerns about the future of the Champions Trophy. The PCB risks losing its hosting rights if it doesn’t compromise.
